Holistic Health: Lessons from Nature in Hawaii

Our family lives in Hawaii where a great many people practice the principles of nature leading the way in health care. Although we don’t shun Western medicine, there’s a belief that holistic care is the best start towards a healthy, happy life.

Today, the typical diet in many countries consists of ultra-processed, nutrient-stripped foods that can’t nourish our bodies and sustain a healthy life. Unfortunately, in a comparison published by The Commonwealth Fund, between our contemporaries (Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom), the US leads the world in health care costs but are last in overall rankings that take into account Access to Care, Care Process, Administrative Efficiency, Equity, and Health Outcomes.

Where Have We Gone Wrong?

Most everywhere we seem to be heading in the wrong direction. In healthcare spending as a percentage of Gross Domestic Product we are dead last. The pun is intended, since, Americans also live the shortest lives and have the most avoidable deaths.

So, although nobody has all the answers, it’s always good to consider what our ancestors learned from their health choices. Their thinking was that the food we eat, the air we breathe, and the lives we lived had a great impact on our health and happiness. It’s something to think about!

It’s never too late to change your life in healthy ways, and that’s all we are suggesting here. We’re just an information source, not experts, not teachers, not doctors. Please enjoy our articles.
